Gerhart should be in New York when this December for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony

With the Heisman Trophy ceremony a month away, it is time to take a look at who the candidates are and who should take home the award. This season, no one player has distanced himself from the rest of the pack. The race is in a spot where anyone could win as we enter the final stretch.

Here is how The Sports Trust would rank the if the trophy was handed out today.

1. Mark Ingram – Running Back – Alabama – 1297 rush yards – 225 receiving yards – 13 total tds

Ingram, a sophomore, is the offense for the undefeated Crimson Tide and a 246 rushing yard performance against South Carolina highlights his season.

2. C.J. Spiller – Running Back – Clemson – 836 rush yards – 382 receiving yards – 14 total tds (1 passing)

Spiller is looking to add a strong finish to a season started out slowly for himself and Clemson. If not for Clemson’s 7-3 record, Spiller may have been sitting a top this list this week.

3. Toby Gerhart – Running Back – Stanford – 1395 rush yards – 87 receiving yards – 19 total tds

Over the last two games against Oregon and USC, Gerhart racked up 401 yards and 6 touchdowns. It looks like Gerhard is hitting his stride at the right time.

4. Ndamukong Suh – Defensive Tackle – Nebraska – 56 tackles – 13 for loss – 5 sacks – 1 interception – 3 blocked kicks

Suh was receiving national Heisman attention before the Cornhuskers lost to Iowa State 9-7. Regardless of national attention, Suh’s numbers have remained steady, even through facing double teams week in and week out.

5. Tim Tebow – Quarterback – Florida – 1730 passing yards – 604 rushing yards- 22 total tds

The lone quarterback on the list, Tebow may not have the same numbers as in past years, but his team is undefeated. A zero in the loss column is tough to argue against, and when called upon, Tebow has done enough to lead his team to victory.
